What: The Builder’s Fund is an early growth stage private equity fund investing with an impact lens in the intersection of purpose-driven brands and the disruption, and opportunity, created by the need to solve large social and environmental challenges. The firm partners with established, high-growth North American-based companies with revenues between $20-100m, whose fundamental business models create positive social/environmental benefit. Core themes of focus include sustainable food & agriculture, health/wellness, climate solutions/resource efficiency and human elevation/social justice.

Who: Customers and employees of US investee businesses, as well as their supply chains in the US and developing countries.

How Much Impact: Builders publishes a comprehensive impact report outlining the activities of its investee companies. Highlights include, 13 million lbs of organic, fairtrade produce purchased in 2019, 280,000 tons of CO2 averted, 6 million organic and healthy meals served, 2,481 tons of material diversion from landfill.

Our Contribution: We were one of the first investors in their first fund, therefore providing much needed capital to kickstart the fund’s efforts.

Impact Risk: Builders operates in sectors and regions where the biggest impact lies probably in influencing the industries of the investee companies, as well as the investment world. Therefore, if the fund is not successful financially, it could prevent it from raising further funds and therefore resulting in diminished impact.
